The award ceremony is under the patronage of Klaus Wowereit, Mayor of Berlin. Expertise and financial support is being provided by the Senate Department for Urban Develpoment. The European Commission has declared the year 2009 as the »European Year of Creativity and Innovation.« The VAB announcing the Call for Entries, and the Senate Department for Urban Develpoment incorporate the 2009 Berlin Architectural Award into the program of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.
