Beidseitig der Friedlander Straße am Friedhof Adlershof entstanden zwei Wohngebäude für die Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Berolina eG. Die Neubauten schließen vorhandene Lücken im Bestand und definieren eine bisher unvollständige städtebauliche Situation. Mit einer gemeinsamen Architektursprache ergänzen die Neubauten die bestehende straßenbegleitende Zeilenbebauung und formulieren eine torartige Situation an der Friedlander Straße.
Der nördliche fünfgeschossige Baukörper ergänzt als Kopfbau die bestehende Zeile und markiert den Übergang in die Freianlagen des Friedhofes an der Köllnischen Heide. Das südliche Gebäude schließt die Straßenflucht zwischen den Bestandsbauten und bildet einen kleinen städtischen Vorplatz aus. Es verfügt über eine fünfgeschossige Betonung der Ecksituation, die den städtebaulichen Dialog zum nördlichen Kopfbau herstellt.
Neben den insgesamt 32 Wohneinheiten befindet sich im südlichen Gebäude im Erdgeschoss ein Gemeinschaftsraum für die Bewohner mit angeschlossener Büronutzung der Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Berolina.
Framing Friedlander Strasse at the Adlershof cemetery, DMSW Architects planned two residential buildings for the Berolina eG housing cooperative. The two new buildings serve to fill pre-existing gaps in the urban fabric and enhance the overall urban landscape. With a common architectural language, the new buildings complement the existing street-side row development and formulate a gate-like situation on Friedlander Strasse.
The northern building, a five-story structure, stands at the forefront of the existing row and marks the transition to the open spaces of the cemetery on Köllnische Heide. The southern building gives the plot, previously occupied by parking garages, a new residential purpose and closes the gab between the existing buildings. The likewise five-story structure sets emphasis on the corner situation and is in dialogue with the northern head building. The building volumes formulate a front court that serves as new public square to the neighborhood.
In addition to the total of 32 residential units, the first floor of the southern building houses a common room for the residents with adjoining office used by the Berolina housing cooperative.
